'A TOWN LIKE THIS'
“A TOWN LIKE THIS” is the second single from CORNELL & CARR debut album “We Go Way Back”.
The first single "Be in the Band" as well as the album both peaked at #2 on the iTunes charts, a great accomplishment for this newly formed duo.
“A Town Like This” tells the story of a young man who drives into an old, run down country town expecting nothing but to fill up the car, grab something to eat, and get back on the road as soon as possible. But then he finds true love, standing right there behind the counter. As the chorus says.... “Never thought I’d find me a girl, fall in love, settle down in a town like this”.
The song has a wonderfully melodic, sing-along vibe that will no doubt capture the ears of music fans of all ages.
“Everybody loves a good love story, especially a love at first sight love story’ says Mike, who just last year married the woman of his dreams after such an encounter.
Matt says, “Over the years I’ve released songs that talk about country towns, I find they inspire me, this song could be about so many amazing little places in Australia.”
Matt & Mike are extremely excited by the video clip that accompanies the song...it stars puppets! “We were all set to hire two actors to play the lead roles in the video, but decided we’d like to do something different to the norm’ say Matt & Mike. “Something that warms the heart like the sentiment in the song”
“I called my brother Darren and explained to him what we wanted to do. He loved the idea and really wanted to be involved,” Mike says. Darren Carr is Australia’s premier and best-known ventriloquist. The end result is “magical”.
The release of this second single for CORNELL & CARR highlights not only the combined creativity of Matt & Mike, but also shows the evolution of them both, that has come about from literally doing thousands of shows between them.
Matt has worked as Adam Brand’s musical director for many years and has opened for international artists including Richard Marx. He was nominated for two Golden Guitar Awards in 2018, was a 2014 CMC Music Awards New Oz Artist of the Year finalist, and was a finalist again, this time for Male Artist Of The Year at the 2017 CMC Music Awards.
Mike has written some of the most popular country songs over the past two decades that include Adam Brand’s “The Anzac” and “Get Loud”, McAllister Kemp’s “It Don’t Buy You Love”, and Adam Harvey’s first single from the new album The Nashville Tapes,” I’d Rather be a Highwayman”. He is a two-time ARIA winner as well as a Golden Guitar winner.
