Cornell & Carr NEW Single Release
Things I leave behind
Cornell & Carr have today released their new single ‘Things I Leave Behind’ and its accompanying video. The track was inspired by the emotional rollercoaster that Matt Cornell went through last year, leaving his home in Sydney where he was born and raised: all the things I’m taking with me, are just a measurement of time, don’t mean as much as the things I leave behind.
Those lines, Cornell says, sum everything up. ‘The mango tree is still there, which my grandad planted when I was a kid, and my neighbours (the Kelly family) have lived next door for over 35 years. So, when I sold the house, packed the truck and drove away, it hit me hard. And I realised that all the things we accumulate over the years have very little meaning, but what matters are the memories we leave behind – both good and bad.’
It’s a feeling echoed by Aussie industry legend Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson, who said that ‘the first time I heard ‘Things I Leave Behind’ I was sitting in my mum’s house in Birmingham in the middle of the night, battling jet lag. The song gently guided my soul back through the many long forgotten memories this house held for me…Matt and Mike are truly great storytellers and ‘Things I Leave Behind’ helped me rediscover a few lost chapters of my own life.’
The track was produced by multiple ARIA and Golden Guitar-winning producer Matt Fell and recorded at his Love HZ Studio in Sydney. Fell also produced the album, We Go Way Back, which debuted at No.2 on the iTunes Country Music Album chart.
The video was shot in Cornell’s old suburb of Ermington and shows him visiting his old stomping ground, saying goodbye to lifelong friends. In a bittersweet twist, the video was filmed in his neighbour’s backyard as he no longer owns the family house. The performance was filmed at Matt Fell’s studio in Leichardt, while the video itself was shot and directed by Jay Seeney of Blacklist Productions, an exciting new talent, who has recently directed Lee Kernaghan’s clips as well as The Wolfe Brothers.
Speaking of The Wolfe Brothers, they’re already fans of Cornell & Carr’s new track. It’s ‘real, raw and honest,’ the brothers say, and ‘an A-grade song from two A-grade talents.’ With reviews like that it’s no surprise that the only things Cornell & Carr are leaving behind are a legion of loyal fans and some stories that will worm their way into hearts and speakers nationwide.
